Al Ahly suffered a disappointing season, missing out on the CAF Champions League title. This was after a loss against Wydad Casablanca in May.
Arch-rivals Zamalek are also trailing the Red Devils by ten points on the Egyptian Premier League table. They are currently on track for a second consecutive title.
Club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib already stated that the remaining league matches will be treated like preseason, with senior players being given a break prior to the new season.
President El-Khatib promised that the squad would be strengthened and Al Ahly has identified their first summer transfer target.
ESPN reports that Al Ahly are interested to acquire Santos and Brazilian forward Lucas Braga.
According to reports, Al Ahly submitted a proposal for $4 million and offered the player a 4-year contract.
But, the club president Andres Rueda said that he is keen to keep Braga and will accept offers up to $10 million.
In total, the 25-year old has provided 10 assists and 14 goals in 144 Santos appearances in all competitions.
