According to the British Daily Mail, Arsenal is about to bring in Brighton’s center back Ben White for a transfer fee of 50 million pounds, and the player will travel to London this weekend to undergo a medical.
According to the report, Arsenal and Brighton have already agreed on the £50 million deal a few days ago, and Ben White has already reached a personal agreement with Arsenal and the two sides have signed the relevant documents. Ben White will complete the transfer next week, after which he will become a member of the Arsenal backline.
Arsenal’s sluggish performance last season
The 2020-21 season was one of underwhelming results for veteran Premier League giants Arsenal. The Premier League ended up in 8th place, a record lowest ranking since 1995.
Looking back. Arsenal were firmly in the top four during Wenger‘s takeover, from the 1996-97 season, to the 2015-16 season, and never missed the Champions League for 20 years. By the last two seasons before Wenger left, it fell out of the top four but stayed in sixth at worst. Emery, who succeeded him, ended up in 5th place in the 2018-19 season, at least retaining European qualification.
However, throughout the 2020-21 season, 38 league games, Arsenal scored 55 goals and conceded 39. The defense is actually doing quite well, compared to the top 7 teams, only conceding more goals than Manchester City and Chelsea. The offense is unimpressive, scoring the fewest goals among the top 8 teams.
After Saliba was sent out on loan again and David Luiz left at the end of his contract, the Arsenal team needs to reinforce the center-back position in the transfer market this summer in order to stabilize the defensive end.
Why is Ben White?
The 23-year-old England defender Ben White, who made 39 appearances for Brighton last season, also played with England in this summer’s Europa League.Ben White has 3 years left on his contract with Brighton.
Ben White is a universal player in the back line, who can play at center back, right back and also play at the Defensive midfielder. Just the kind of player Arsenal needs.
Previously, Arsenal has made two offers to Brighton, £40 million and £47 million respectively, but both were rejected.
