OFFICIAL: Trezeguet joins Turkish Super Lig winners Trabzonspor

Trezeguet has been sold by the club. His contract expires in 2023.

This Egyptian winger joined Aston Villa in 2019 and quickly adapted to the team. He represented them in 64 games in all competitions.

This former Al Ahly youthster was a key reason Villa survived the fall in his first season. He scored crucial wins against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and others in the final stages.

Trezeguet led Aston Villa to a final of the EFL Cup after scoring a late winner against Leicester City. The team then lost to Manchester City at Wembley.

But, Trezeguet’s long-term knee injury in 2021 caused him to fall down the Aston Villa pecking order. He played only 10 minutes after his recovery and was then loaned to Istanbul Basaksehir.

After a successful spell in Turkey, the 27-year old managed to quickly regain his form. He scored six goals and provided four assists in thirteen appearances.

He was also awarded the Player of the Month award for February and March.

Trezeguet was a target for many clubs across Europe, particularly in Turkey, where he has proven his worth.

However, it was the Turkish Super Lig champions Trabzonspor that managed to negotiate a deal with Aston Villa to pay for Trezeguet’s services. It is estimated that the fee is around EUR4m.

The Turkish champions will cover the fee over four seasons, EUR1m per season. In addition, the Villians will receive 10% of future transfer fees should Trezeguet leave Trabzonspor.

Trezeguet has signed a four year contract with his new club. He will continue to be at the club until 2026 and will earn an annual salary of EUR1.5m.

Trezeguet will be the third ever Egyptian to represent the club, following Al Ahly legend Sayed Mohamed and ex-Zamalek midfielder Ayman Abdullaziz who both played for the club from 2007 to 2008.

Trabzonspor will be participating in the UEFA Champions League next year, where they will begin from the playoff round.
