Today Manchester United announced their squad for the Champions League group stage match away to BSC Young Boys, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the squad, making up a total of 22 players who will all travel to the away end. Four other players, including Cavani, are absent due to injury.
Manchester United eager to pick up a big margin of victory
United will be keen to pick up a big win against the Bernese youngsters. After all, with tough opponents like Atalanta and Villarreal in the same group, United will need to secure all six points against Bern to secure their place in the group.
The Goalkeepers
In the team of goalkeepers, De Gea, Heaton and Kovacs are all in the team. De Gea, who has been in great form recently, is still the most stable part of United’s backline, while Heaton and Kovacs are also good enough to deal with unexpected situations. At the back, Varane, Wambabika, Luke Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, Dalot and Bailly are all included in the list.
The Formation
Not surprisingly, Solskjaer will continue the same backline formation that he played against Newcastle in the last match.Varane has settled in very quickly since joining United. Against Newcastle, he played very well. He showed the qualities of a top defensive player in corner kicks and in defending in the field.
In midfield, Bruno Fernandes, Van Der Beek, Fred, Lingard, Mata, Matic, Pogba and Sancho are the eight players in the squad. In the last game against Newcastle, Matic’s single back was not really effective.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo made a perfect return to action last time out when he scored twice against Newcastle. The trip away to the Borneo youngsters will be Ronaldo’s first Champions League game since his return to Manchester United and it will be a milestone as well. The Portuguese will be hoping to score in this match, as Greenwood and Ronaldo had a good rapport last time out.
Greenwood and Ronaldo will be key to the team’s ability to score a big margin against the BSC Young Boys.
King of the Champions League
It is worth mentioning that if Ronaldo plays in this game, he will equal the number of goals scored by his predecessor. If he plays, he will equal the record of 177 Champions League appearances held by his former Real Madrid teammate Casillas. It must be said that Ronaldo’s nickname, King of the Champions League, is very apt. He is currently number one in the Champions League in terms of goals and assists.
If he can equal Casillas’ first place in the Champions League in terms of appearances, then Ronaldo’s title as the King of the Champions League will be well deserved.
Based on the current form of the two teams and the analysis of their strengths, United are not under too much pressure and may even play for a big margin. What do you think of this list for the away leg of the Champions League?
