Where the English Football League is right now is a seminal moment.
It is clear that the monies given to the EFL in Covid-19 were monies borrowed from the future. These chickens will return to the nest in 2023-24. It is a worrying time.
The Premier League has asked for more money – a lot of money. The Premier League is looking at it and saying, “Surely this isn’t all down to us?”
There is no other league that has enjoyed the same financial success as the Premier League. And right next to it is a structure that could collapse. In its current state, the EFL is not able to survive. It urgently needs reform. It needs to be able to admit that it isn’t working and let’s fix it. But, something must be done. The NHS is in a similar situation to this one.

I hope that a long-term solution is found. After all, you can always change your house. You can also change the car. You can change your car.
