Percy signed a three-year contract at Al Ahly after completing a permanent transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion to Al Ahly last summer.
Despite a positive start in Cairo, Tau was plagued by injuries and fell behind youngster Ziad Tarek and Taher Mohamed.
Despite being 28 years old, Tau still managed to score eight goals and assist six others, which inspired Al Ahly to win this season’s 2021 CAF Super Cup as well as the CAF Champions League final.
Tau is being linked to an early departure from Cairo for Europe. He has not assisted or scored in domestic competitions since November 2021.
French team Le Havre AC is leading the race to win the South African title on a season-long loan deal with the option of making the deal permanent.
Although both sides have yet to come to an agreement, it is believed that negotiations are moving in the right direction ahead of Friday’s deadline for European transfer windows.
Ligue 2 Le Havre is a second-tier French football league. They currently rank eighth in the league table, with nine points from eight games.
Le Havre hopes that Tau’s signing could lead to them being promoted for the first time since 2009.
Should the deal be approved, Tau will be the second Al Ahly player to leave Ligue 2 after Aliou Badji who moved to Amiens for EUR1.8m.
