About the Aston Villa team in brief
Aston Villa Football Club, a football club located in Birmingham, Central England is currently playing in the English Premier League. It was founded in 1874. They were the first team to compete in the First Division in 1888, and in the English Premier League (in 1992). This makes Aston Villa one the oldest Premier League teams.
Aston Villa won seven English FA Cups and seven top-flight titles in its early years. Villa has also been at the top of the Premier League for several seasons since its inception, although their performances have been inconsistent. Villa remains one of the most powerful teams in the Premier League, besides the four other contenders, Manchester United included. Villa’s league results are starting to slide with the rise of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, and many of those who made their mark at Villa leaving for other clubs.
Three seasons after being demoted from the Premier League, Villa was able to return to the Premier League on 28 May 2019 after defeating Derby County 2-1 in an official Championship promotion play-off.
